So, we lost the E-town Beatdown. Meh.

Also, I'm really, really confused about English. Last Thursday I had B-, and today I have a C-. That's ONE SCHOOL DAY. And the only thing that could have influenced my grade that much is that FUCKING PROJECT. But, my lovely fact of the day: My mother & I both, on our own, reached the conclusion that my English teacher isn't smart enough to teach 4-level English at this high school. Plus, he's a brand-new teacher, and I need a teacher with experience wiht kids with IEPs, not one who forgot he had one in his class.

Grr.

I'm supposed to be working on this French thing on this movie we're watching in class, but it's hard to find a reviewer who didn't like Les Visiteurs.

Spanish Immersion Day was today, and I totally can't wait for French Immersion Day! I will totally speak to my English teacher in French, just because he said (to Mom) that he didn't care what a student added to a discussion, so long as they spoke up. Ce prennez, Monsieur!

Tuk-tuk!

I am so mad at my English teacher. First off, I thought I was failing that class. I was getting mostly F's and C's on my lucky days. All my friends were mad too, because I proofread their papers and help them out in English all the time, and it's one of my best subjects. Then we did this group project, and individually I got an A! Maybe a B. I haven't actually calculated the grade. But the group grade was an F with 'See Me!' written all over it. And then we went to talk to the teacher, and he was all (looking at me and one other girl, Aria) "I'm kinda suprised at you." I really wanted to yell, "What the fuck? I got the bext grade out of everyone in the group!" Which is a big accomplishment for me in English this year – I was seriously expecting to get het worst grade in the group.

So, I'm mad at him. I hope the individual grade counts more than the group one.

And, in other news, I saw the Joffrey Ballet on Saturday! My mom's friend's daughter had a little bitty part in it, so we got the tickets from her for relatively cheap. Yayness!

Also, I'm thinking of making this friends-only.

Tuk-tuks!

I don't know what it means, but I've been wondering...

I am all set to go for school tomorrow, and it's not even ten o'clock yet.

I am muchly proud. Of course, I feel like I've just bashed my head against the wall about fifty times, danced, then relaxed on a hardwood floor. And French class is seeping into parts of my brain that it shouldn't be in. My first response to a question shouldn't be in French, should it? All week, I've been thinking, quoi? Et Qui est-ce? Et oú est...? I like French, but it's getting a little freaky.

My favorite French word ever is meuble. As in, je vais aller á la magasin de meubles. (I'm going to go to the store of furniture.) Such a cool word. And my teacher is fun. She's always saying things like, "Regardez! C'est trés cool, non?"

Bien nuit, mes amies.

Gack, this new LJ setup/skin/whateverthehellyoucallit is really annoying. It's too... something. It has no hard edges. That really bothers me.

I drove for the frist time today XD. It's raining, but Mom wanted me to get some practice, so she found the emptiest parking lot with the least standing water for me. I went forward, and I turned. There was a lot of abrupt braking. It was sort of fun. Mostly scary, but whatever.

My brain is all fried from school. I'm trying to write a history paper on modernity and postmodernity, but failing miserably. I know exactly what I want to write, I just can't get it from my mind to the computer screen.

I have a space cadet moment to share. Truly a gem.

Last Friday was Alex's sixteenth birthday party, so he took couple of his friends (Six, to be more exact. And I was invited! It makes me happy.) to dinner at Ron of Japan. His parents drove us there, and in the car on the way there, we were for some unremembered reason discussing the Indiana Jones movies. Hilary said that she had only ever seen part of one of them – I'm not sure which movie it's from, but it's the scene where Indiana Jones is walking down a tunnel and the floor is covered with bugs (he had that little Indian kid with him, I think.) I said something like, "Was that the movie with the monkey brains and the hearts getting torn out of people's chests?"

Hilary cringed and said she didn't know, because they were too gross for her to watch.

Then, and only then, for the first time in my life, I realized that they were kinda gross movies. Alex turned to me and said, "Ya think?"

I feel so stupid! 'Cuz they really are disgusting movies, but it's never bothered me. I've always just closed my eyes during the nasty parts. Also, I think the first time I saw and Indiana Jones movie, I was eight? Some age like that. I've seen all of them – even the young Indiana Jones movies, and they weren't that great – and it's never really bothered me before.

I think the movie Ry was talking about is hte one where the guy gets crushed under the grinding stone, but I'm not entirely sure.

One year!

I've been on LJ for a year today! Woot! And all that jazz.

First full week of school, and I started off by nearly missing the bus. But I didn't. Ick, that was obvious.

I'm joining the school newspaper! They really, really, desperately need someone who can EDIT that thing half-decently. The editing last year was atrocious. "Awful" is not a strong enough adjective for the editing last year. They're both cool. Also, Hilary & I have an idea for a section – "Culture Corner," with a short article in a different language (or just about stuff that's happening elsewhere in the world), and some artwork or a recipe or something relevant frmo another culture.

Our school's really into international social service, so I think it would be fun to do stuff about ares of the world that we do service projects in. Which is mostly Africa. We should do an Asian social service project. And another in New Orleans.

I babysat last night, for my neighbor's kids, Charlie (8) and Miriam (5). They're really well-behaved, except Charlie likes to try to play video games when he's not supposed to. I'm wise to that– I've got brothers, too. But if you tell him he can't and give him something else to do, he stops.

Ooh, also, we had to take a reading assesment today and they spelled words wrong in the questions. That really annoys me, because it's an Enblish test! It doesn't make me confident in my teacher's ability to teach his subject when the test is mispelled!

Yay! First week of school is officially over!

I'm going to see Little Miss Sunshine tonight, at the local movie theater. I always have candy in my purse for when I go to movies at the chain cineplexes, but I always buy stuff at teh local theater because it's waaaay cheaper.

And last time I was there, I left my purse behind and they went through it to find my phone number, so I have no doubt they also found the M&M's* and the (unopened) water bottle. I'm wondering whether they'll search my purse tonight.

*I think I've had the same M&M's in my purse for a year. (At least three months. I'm not sure actually how long I've had them in there.) I would be afraid to eat them.

Sailing last night was so fun! I sailed in a Rainbow 303, which is a nice boat, but I would never want to own one. because you need at least two preferably three to rig it & tack. I want a baot I can sail by myself.

Um, anyway. It was really wavy, so we went pretty fast but it was bumpy. It was me & Hilary and the guy who owned the boat sailing it -- he was a bit snappy when we didn't move fast enough, but overall he was a decent guy. He'd obviously sailed his entire life.

So, I've got a full schedule this year.

1st – English. My teacher was a little scary today, but it's only the first day and I think he's going to lighten up. He said several times that English was going to be one of the hardest classes this year. I know a few people, and I dislike most of them. Except for one girl, Sami, who was really nice to me after I was sick last year.

2nd – French! Whee! We got homework today, and I'm starting to sense a pattern. But other than the amount of homework foreign language teachers like to assign, I think I like this teacher. Though, I really didn't like Madame last year at the beginning of the year, and by the end I loved her. So I'll see how it goes.

3rd – Modern World History. A couple of my friends are in the same class, and they're all pretty cool. What to say about the teacher?... I think if Jon Stewart was a history teacher, he would be the one I've got.

4th – Creative Cuisine! Cooking, which is automatically fun, and I know one or two of the other kids.

5th – Dance. There are 46 girls (and one guy) in my Dance class, so most of my friends are with me (the ones that are taking Dance, anyway). And I know the one guy, Mark, he's noce but very Jewish.

6th – Lunch! I have lunch with Katrina! And Duncan, but Duncan I can take or leave. He's weirder than most of my friends. And I thought for a minute that Rhys* was in 6th lunch, but he just has a free period Mon/Wed/Thurs.

7th – Geometry. Well, technically, first semester is 'Plane Grometry.' I know absolutely NO ONE. And the girls who sat in front of me today whispered secrests (loudly) back and forth. And my teacher is jsut out of college.

8th – Com Skills. Was a really fun class last year, but this year I'M THE ONLY SOPHOMORE. SO today (which was sophomore only) I spent the 8th talking with the teacher (who was really nice) about what we did this summer. I'm growing to dislike talking about my summer.

8th/9th – Bio. Um, there are about 10 sophomores, and they were mostly all in the same science class last year, so I feel kind left out. Also, I'm apparently one of the few not looking forward to fetal pig dissection.

My advisor this year is amazing, so far. I like her better than last year's, already. And whatever reason my advisory had for NOT TALKING TO ME AT ALL last year is void this year, or something like that, because I've had several lovely chats with my advisees already.

*Rhys is my ex-husband. He left me and Maggie (my ex-wife) at the end of last year. He took everything. The servants, the mansion, the money. *tear* I sit outside his front gate and beg for money.

I got my braces off today! Super exciting, and all that jazz. I have one week before I get my retainers, and I'm planning on enjoying it. XD

School starts this Wednesday & I'm really not looking forward to it. My top reasons for not going back to school:

1) School means summer is over, and when summer's over I can't go sailing anymore 'cuz Michigan is too cold.
2) I just started my summer reading TODAY. The Catcher in the Rye. I cannot stand it. (However, my mother was greatly amused by reading my annotations. Most of them are along the lines of, 'It burns.')
3) My biology lab room is in the basement, and it looks like the dungeon laboratory of a mad scientist. Possibly an ex-employee of Hitler's.
4) The sophmore/junior/senior campus has the most confusing layout known to mankind.

But then, I finally got a new backpack, and it's shiny. So I kinda want to use it.

At the advisory picnic (when our new advisor showed us around The Big House), I swear everyone thought I had color contacts. Actual conversations:

Mary (who's really nice. I'm so glad she's in my advisory): "Did you get contacts?"
Me: *nod*
Mary: "Are they color, or...?"
Me: No.
(Then there was the requisite 'so, what have you been doing all summer?' conversation, which isn't so bad when I'm talking to Mary.)

Caroline (one of Mary's friends, who's nice but I don't know her that well): "I like your contacts. Very pretty."
I said thank you, then tried to figure out what on earth she was talking about. By the time I guessed that she thought they were color, she was talking to someone else.

In other, less back-to-school news, Hilary and I are thinking about fixing the hole in my Sailfish and taking out before school starts.

Holy Hannah, school starts the day after tomarrow! Ack!

I changed the layout again because I love Flexible Squares to no end, and when I see it in other people's journals, I want to use it in mine.

Um, anyway.

I LOVE ARTS AND CRAFTS! I was hanging out with my baby brother today and he kept wanting me to play with him, but usually I say no, maybe later, so I was feeling a bit guilty. I talked him into doing an arts-n-crafts project and we had loads of fun. Squee. When I grow up, I want to be a freaky hippie/writer/artist lady. That would be the best profession ever.

Plus I want to join the Peace Corps for a bit, so it all works.

I feel that I should update this but I have nothing to say, really. I can't ficgure out how to put pictures in here, so I have no pictures of my puppy. The most intersting thing that's happened to me lately was I went to see "The Devil Wears Prada" and a) the ticket guy is kinda cute and b) I got in for the child's price -- five dollars! Which meant that I could actaully afford to go! Not that I really care, I'll see movies even if I can't afford to. Ooh, and they're selling Pirates of the Caribbean tickets starting on Thursday, so I'll definitely be able to see that on opening day (and I'm babysitting Friday night, so even if I have to pay full price, I'll still be able to afford it.

Yayness!

Pretty much I'm bored right now. I have to find a job.

Ooh, and I have a shiny new icon! First icon I have that I didn't make. It makes me happy.

I'm getting another puppy! And he is mine. Well, technically he's the family's, but I'm the one who really wants him and voluteered to clean up after him and gets to name him. I don't know what to name him... Right now he's going by Patches, but our other dog is named Magic and I don't think it's fair to have one dog with a unusual name and one named Patches. He's one of the most adorable puppies in the entire world; he's a mutt, same mix as Magic. He's Magic's nephew, actually. And his brother.

Just a tad inbred, that's all.

If he turns out to be a biter we're going to have to put him down, but he seems so calm that I can't inamgine that happening -- as opposed to Magic, who loves nothing more than running around and playing all day.

I could talk about my puppies all day.

But I'm not going to.

On Thursday, after school ended, Hilary & I went back to the junior high to see our old teachers. They all treated us differently -- not worse -- but not as though we were their students anymore. We talked for a while with Madame, who I liked a lot better than this year's French teacher, and learned that technically we weren't suposed to be int the building -- last year a girl (who I went to camp with) came in and pulled a fire alarm for a joke. I imagine all the students loved it. Then we talked to the music teacher for nearly forty-five minutes. I swear she was never that nice to us when we were in her class! But it was loads of fun.

Ooh! In fifteen minutes my brother is bringing Patches home! We're borrwing him from his momma for so my great-aunt (who's having dinner with us) can meet him and all his adroable-ness.

FRESHMAN YEAR IS OVER!

I AM OFFICIALLY A SOPHMORE!

I think finals and final projects and all that jazz nearly killed me, but I made it, and I'm a <strike>froshmore!</strike> I mean, sophmore! Yay-ness.

And... I spent my last class of ninth grade systematically destroying a Now-And-Later wrapper and pretending it was Sam Edel's head. I HATE that BASTARD but I don't even know his real last name so I can't even look him in the phone book and play nasty prank calls. (i.e, call his house at four in the morning and yell into the phone 'WHERE ARE YOU?!? You were supposed to be home an hour ago! You're grounded, [insert name here]!" Then saying, "Oops, sorry, wrong number" when they're confused as hell. This actually happened to a friend of mine, except it was her uncle calling and he really did have the wrong number.)

I feel like I should reflect a bit on all the non-academic things I learned this school year... wearing a skirt/dress, wearing high heels*, that painting one's nail five different colors is laods of fun, etc. but I don't want to.

*What my brother, who is two years younger and an inch taller than me, said about high heels: "They make you feel taller. Like drugs. Drugs make you feel good, but are they good for you?" I found this so amusing that I wrote it down. He's a unique one, he is.

Because I'm feeling liberated:
To all the lawyers prosecuting the local and state governments of Illinois: Don't give up! Don't stop until the Machine is in pieces on the floor!

I should never be allowed to touch anything ever again.

So, my day of Tonks-ness:

1) I had the house to myself for lunch so I drank my Diet Rite (secret addiction) out of a fancy stem glass, and when I was cleaning up my lunch and putting the dishes in the sink, the bottom of the glass BROKE OFF. I swear, I'm not even sure how. I figure I knocked it against something esle in the sink, but I didn't see anything.
1b) Then when I was washing out my soup bowl, I knocked over the soap container.

2) I found a bracelet that I had missing missing -- it's really pretty, it's made of polished pieces of amethyst strung together on a cord -- and when I was trying to put it on, I dropped it on the hardwood floor and a couple of the stones chipped.

3) I was at my brother's friend's house playing with their dog's new puppies (the puppies aren't even a month old, and they've just opened their eyes and they're just starting to walk), so I was sitting on the floor, and when I stood up I ripped the back hem off my jeans.

And oddly enough, the only only things I can think are variations on 'I feel so sorry for Tonks.' Haha, I'm a geek.

Maggie got a new bunny! I went to see her yesterday, the bunny is adorable... She's a French lop and she's just a baby but already she's pretty big. Her name is Chou-Chou. She was so cute! But she peed on Maggie's couch while I was sitting on it, and I had to borrow Hilary's pants (she was there too, she had pants on under teh dres she was wearing) while I washed mine. I will never, ever, ever be as tiny as Maggie is, so it's a good thing Hilary was there or else I'd have had nothing to wear while my jeans were in the wash.

I love riding my bike to Maggie's house because her street is at the bottom of a huge -- well, huge for nothern Illinois, anyway -- hill, and I really only have to pedal for about half the ride. Fun times, fun times.

And the rest of my life is boring, because I have two huge projects due on Wednesday. So to procrastinate I've been writing fanfic and stuff. For those who be interested, I'm putting all of it (No matter how crappy) up here.

...

...

BOO!
Once finals are over, I'm getting myself a life.

Hey, I'm really bored because all the season finales were last week and I have nothing to watch on TV... So I'm just going to talk about teenage stuff for a little bit. You can ignore this.

Start with Alex. Alex was my date to Turnabout, but we went as friends (we didn't know each other that well), and I haven't seen him very often since then, but he was really sweet, and he's kinda cute. He kinda looks like my brother, too. I saw him again at the synchro show, and we talked and it was nice. I like him, I'm just trying to figure out how much. Because he really likes Hilary, he asked her out a couple of days ago and she sort of said yes, she was vague because she doesn't really like him that much but they're friends. And I don't like the idea of Alex and HIlary dating. At all. Which isn't nice of me, because they would make a cute couple. And so I'm just confused about Alex. Completely. It isn't fair. And he would be Hilary's third boyfriend in less than a year.
She broke up with her first boyfriend, Jordan, because he was a wimp and never said, "Let's go do something!" or anything like that. I'm not sure about Tom, because she never mentioned it, so I think it was mutual. Tom really liked Hilary, but in a casual I'm-going-to-pretend-not-to-care-about-you-as-much-as-I-really-do way, and Hilary just kinda used him for going to the movies with, and talked about how cute George from Gray's Anatomy was when he was around. She was a self-confessed bad girlfriend. A couple weeks before they broke up she started talking to Jordan on the phone again, too. So I don't know if I would want anyone to go out with her... But I think if it weren't Alex, I don't think I'd really be spending this much time on it.

So now I'm going to wonder about Julia. She said in EH that her new boyfriend was the guy with mohawk, but she was talking to Adam and I wouldn't it past her to make up both the boyfriend and his hairdo to see the expression on Adam's face when he tried to imagine polos-and-jeans-and-Coach-sneakers Julia with a guy with a mohawk. I can sort of see her falling for someone with a mohawk if they were smart and had an opinion. Or maybe she felt like starting her bad-boy phase at fourteen. Or maybe it's just a rumor. Julia got into some really good section in the school orchestra and everyone was like, "Good for you! [under breath] you get two chances, you bitch, you play two instruments."

I wonder if Anna still has a crush on Parker. I haven't talked to her since... yesterday. But before that I hadn't talked to her for nearly a month.

I think I'm going to stop rambling now.

Wow, I have a lot lot lot to say...

Starting with Wednesday!

Wednesday was Africa Day around here, because we care. We really do. (I don't, really, well, sort of.) So there was no regular school stuff, but instead it was all this *really* intense stuff on how horrible people in Africa have it. Just a liiiittlle biased, that's all.

Then my Thursday of horribleness!

So, it started off, I got up and I felt sick, but I went to school anyway 'cause I had a humungous history test. And then, when I get to school, the first thing Hilary says to me is -- "You look really pale. Don't die on me." Then before advisory I went to the bathroom and the BUTTON CAME OFF MY JEANS. But then I had first period free, so I hung out in the student lounge. There's never anybody there first period. Not other kids, but even a teacher to supervise or anything. I can pretty much do whatever I want... which is usually just read. Thursday I was reading The Handmaid's Tale, which technically I'm not supposed to have read yet, but I've read it twice. It's really good. Third period I had a Health test, which wasn't so bad except it was about nutrition and made me feel like throwing up. Fourth, I got back a math test with a 70% on it, and I usually get high B's in math, so that was disappointing. THEN sixth period in English the teacher gave us a suprise quiz! That took all period, except for a minute right before the bell when she passed back our tests on The Tempest, which I got a B+ on. Would have done better except I f'ed up the Scantron part, I did fantastic on the inclass essay/short answer part. And then seventh was the history test, which I really think I flunked, but it was on Africa and I'm still having a hard time giving a damn about Africa. After school I liad around and watched Gilmore Girls reruns (from when it was good) and drank soda.

Friday I was sick, and I finished reading The Handmaid's Tale.

Saturday was so much fun! Hilary is on the school synchronized swimming team, and their show was last night, so I went to that. Maggie and Zach and a bunch of other people were supposed to show up BUT DIDN'T, so I was alone. :) Not really, I sat in the back talked to Kat who was doing behind the scenes stuff and Alex, who I went with to Turnabout, who was pretty much in charge of turning the disco ball on. We made it into a wonderful night-long joke. Then at the end of the show, Kat and Alex and I decided that Zach had been there, instead of at a movie, and Kat called him to update him on his whereabouts. It was cool. The show was okay, but I had fun, so... whatever.

Then after I got home I made sugar cookie dough & frosting for Mother's Day. Started at about nine-thirty, ended... at nearly eleven. But I made them all by myself, and they tasted pretty good today. The cookies were lemon and the frosting was peppermint. :)

Today I got up at 7:30 to frost the cookies, then didn't, because I decided that I could do that closer to dinnertime. We made Mom breakfast in bed and all that jazz, and Dad got her tickets to a Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young concert, and Danny bought her a CD. But me & Matt, we had homemade gifts. He had a bag full of all that stuff seven-year-olds make for their mommies. And I made her cookies.

After dinner, we were talking about how when Danny was older, what kind of music would he like? And then Mom did a hilarious impression of Billie Joe. I don't think it was her impression so much as it was her impression that made us laugh uncontrollably.

*feels warm inside* I did that. I introduced my brother and indirectly all his friends to Green Day.
